Bursary Recipients Star at Blackwater Valley Festival

7 September 2021

Irish Heritage was delighted to have six of its bursary recipients perform in the 2021 Blackwater Valley Opera Festival which closed on the 5th September.

Thanks to the open nature of its auditorium in the stable yard of Lismore Castle, the Festival was among the first public events to be staged as Ireland slowly lifts its pandemic restrictions. Even with restricted attendances and social distancing, audiences responded with enthusiasm to the joy of attending live music concerts and recitals and sharing the experience with others.

Over three days Amy Gillen (flute), Mollie Wrafter (violin), Tiffany Qui and Justine Gormley (piano), Dominica Williams (mezzo soprano) and Ellen Mawhinney (soprano) delighted audiences with the quality of their performances, receiving standing ovations in the process.

The bursary recipients’ participation in the Festival is a key element of the partnership agreement between Irish Heritage and the Festival which will see the Festival’s 2021 bursary recipients Amy Gillen and Rory Dunne (bass-baritone) perform at the charity’s events in London over coming months.
